On Dog-Sports (Obedience & Agility)

Banjo and spiceSarah, Banjo & Spice

Chris has fantastic practical experience in training all types of dogs which is backed by great theoretical knowledge. She continues to investigate different training models and theories in order to be able to implement a variety of solutions to behavioural or training problems.

Chris started training me and my whippets in early 2010 and she immediately made a huge difference to my approach to training my dogs and to the results we have been able to achieve. In particular Chris opened my eyes to positive reinforcement training methods. I cannot thank Chris enough for her work with me on these “foundation” concepts as they have strengthened my relationships with my dogs and made obedience and agility training and competition more personally rewarding and enjoyable.

I initially sought help from Chris with fine tuning our obedience performance – and in short time Spice gained her CCD title thanks in large part to Chris. If I can get over my nerves, I know Banjo will soon get the third pass needed for his CCD title too.

I had just started looking to the challenge of agility when I started taking lessons from Chris. Her enthusiasm for the sport, coupled with her practical and theoretical knowledge meant that my (and my dogs’) skills and abilities grew quickly. After just a few months, I entered Banjo and Spice in their first Jumping competition. Banjo got a “qualifying pass” at his first attempt and won the class. Within 4 trials he obtained his Jumping title. Within 2 trials he has also obtained two passes for his Agility title. Spice has some concentration issues which we are working through but I have no doubt she will get there and in the meantime we are having such fun on the journey.

Thank you, Chris, for your keen eye, wise words and sense of humour. You have made training (whether for obedience or agility) a joy.

Endnote: As at 10 April 2011, Banjo has added 3 more titles in three weeks, ADX, JDX & SD.
They will now compete in Masters, and I have no doubt we will see Banjo very soon in the State Finalists. Spice has gained her AD & JD and is well on the way to completing the Excellent class. Well done Sarah!
