My Training Philosophy

I do personal consults for people
with difficulties with their dogs
& new puppies as well as performance dog-sports training.
I am largely a positive trainer.
I believe it is not necessary to bully, force or brutalize a dog to comply.
I train dogs from puppies up with reward based methods which I find to be the most successful. If I am faced with an older dog with little or no training, I may use management tools such as face control halters or no pull halters which offer control on the walk without confrontation,
particularly with big strong dogs.
If I need to discipline a dog, it is usually in the form of withdrawal of priveleges eg missed opportunity for food, time-outs etc.
In rare cases I will use punishment in the form of shaking a rattle jar of rocks as a sound deterrent or using voice admonishment.
I am a strong follower of Dr Ian Dunbar and base most of my
training is based on his methods.
I have also been influenced by Suzanne Clothier,
Nicole Wilde, Patty Ruzzo, Jean Donaldson, Ted Turner,
Patricia McConnell & Susan Garrett.
